In 2025, Library Society embarked on a journey of new experiences. We had various highlights such as creating ‘BookTok’ videos (on the theme ‘Ink and Intrigue’) to publicise recommendations for the annual English Language and Literature Festival (ELLF 2025) on Instagram, as well as a workshop conducted by Mr José from the Embassy of Portugal in Singapore to discover the wonders of the culture of Portugal. Library Society also had the opportunity to take part in a workshop conducted by CIVICA called BAMM Imagination, ‘Books and Mind Meet Imagination’, with a focus on reading and fostering creative expression, which we thoroughly enjoyed.  This was in addition to the EL and CL book presentations which we regularly carried out to foster a love of reading and publicise our selection of books with the school community.

Two lower secondary teams took part in the Prove It! Contest 2025 organised by National Library Board. The teams were tasked with publicising their content so as to educate others on media literacy and topics related to Cybersecurity and Green technology. We are proud to announce that both teams were awarded Silver at National level for their articles and videos.

Library Society offers a wide range of enriching VIA opportunities from Secondary 1 to 4. One key opportunity includes participating in the NLB’s annual Read for Books VIA, where books are donated to underprivileged communities through partner organisations. Librarians also take part in NLB storytelling sessions for children, where we engage young audiences through lively stories and encourage them to nurture a deeper appreciation for reading. In addition, librarians can also volunteer with NLB as ambassadors to educate the public about digital literacy during road shows.

We actively initiate collaborations with other CCAs to enrich our members’ experiences and foster stronger inter-CCA ties. We hosted a bonding session with Publications this year, where members from both CCAs had the opportunity to interact and learn more about each other’s CCA. We had a Blind Book Wrapping and Contexticles sharing which enhanced our learning and provided us the opportunity to form meaningful inter- CCA friendships.

This year we also had book presentations on the theme “If I could end the story differently…” where we shared our creative ideas as budding writers. Library Society is optimistic about the years ahead, and looks forward to organising even more engaging activities for our members. Who knows if a budding Nobel laureate writer may someday arise from among us….

As a CCA, we aim to create lasting memories as our members strive to grow to be well-read, gracious women of character.

Prove It! Contest 2025 and Historical Scene Investigation (HSI) Challenge 2025 (EL NLB Competitions)

Our two Lower Secondary teams were awarded Silver in this contest organised by the National Library Board. They were required to write an article as well as produce an engaging and informative video on their chosen topic. Both the article and video were shared school-wide as part of the competition’s advocacy requirements. The team did extensive research, careful citations of sources, and conducted a survey to collect data for their topics.The first group chose the topic “Think Before You Click: How Teens Can Protect Singapore’s Cyberspace”, while the second team chose “Digital Green Warriors: Can Singapore’s Teenagers Alter Our Future?”

For HSI 2025

Two sec 1 teams took part in this annual competition organised by the National Library Board.Our teams won Bronze Awards for their videos and reports on Singapore’s heritage and urban development story. The two teams explored changes in two neighbourhoods over the years.

Read for Books VIA 2025

‘Read for Books’ is a charity book drive to encourage reading and to share the joy of reading with the less privileged.For every 10 people who read for 15 minutes, one book or the equivalent would be donated to selected beneficiaries by National Library Board.Librarians who took part in this activity were able to give back to society while simultaneously nurturing a love for reading. We organised 15 sessions in July in our library so that staff, librarians and other students could participate in this meaningful activity and have the time to read amidst their busy schedule.

Learning Journey to Kinokuniya and National Library (Central) STEAM Lab Festival

On 15th August, the Sec1 and 2 librarians visited the National Library (Central) for the STEAM Lab Festival, which was organised by NLB for children and teens. This year’s theme was ‘Enter the Unknown’, and it invited us to step beyond the familiar and discover new insights about the world around us through a wide range of interactive booths, hands-on programmes, and fringe activities.Librarians also made a trip to Kinokuniya in September to purchase both English and Chinese books for the school library.We carefully selected a wide range of books with our teachers and librarian Ms Ellenca. Both fiction and non-fiction books were selected as requested by our student body and our librarians.

Civica Workshop 2025 BAMM

On 21st February, Mr. David Balch from Civica came over to our library to conduct a BAMM ( Books And Minds Meet- ‘Books to Screen’ and ‘Empathy’ themes) Workshop.Prior to the workshop, librarians were required to read the books ‘Fahrenheit 451’ by Ray Bradbury and ‘What You Are Looking For is in the Library 'by Michiko Aoyama. Our librarians adapted a scene from the latter book, and crafted a film script, complete with dialogues and descriptions for actors. This prerequisite activity was fun and the workshop was packed with interesting activities.The librarians had fun showcasing their work and seeing each others’ ideas come to life, as we used different objects around the library as props for our scenes. Inspired by our ‘empathy’ theme, the ‘_Just for you’ activity_ challenged us to select a book for a fellow student based upon the latter’s selection of 8 words/phrases from a multi-genre word cloud. We also had a debrief session, where librarians shared their thoughts on the books they were given.

Exchange Visit to the Embassy of Portugal

In March 2025, Mr. José from the Embassy of Portugal in Singapore visited our library and shared fascinating insights about Portugal and its various districts. From delectable egg tarts to the stunning Azulejo tiles, our librarians thoroughly enjoyed the informative workshop and are looking forward to more sessions like this in the future.Building on this experience, each of our small groups designed their own mini board games inspired by different cities in Portugal. It was a truly enjoyable experience to try out everyone’s creations and appreciate their creativity.In July, representatives from our two groups brought these board games to the Embassy of Portugal for an exchange visit. We listened to the embassy staff’s presentations, demonstrated the games we had created, and gave the games to the embassy as mementos. This rare and valuable experience deepened our interest in Portugal and left us eager to explore more about the country.

今年四月，我们图书馆学会的成员一起参加了文学四月天——“作家如是说”导读活动。我们聆听了作家许迅振《长长久久》以及邓宝翠导演《岁月无声》的导读与分享，从中获益不浅。在与作家和导演的交流中，我们不仅深入了解了作品背后的创作理念与人生思考，也体会到文学与电影如何以不同的方式记录时代、传达人情。这次导读活动让我们明白，文学能成为理解世界、表达自我的重要途径，也激发了我们对阅读与创作的热情。

校园超级阅读明星比赛（Super Reading Star Competition）

我们图书馆学会在2023和2024年代表学校参加了全国校园超级阅读明星比赛。我们发挥创意、一起合作，在2023年分别获得漫画组和故事视频组一、二等奖。在2024年也获得了最佳视频奖。通过，这次比赛，我们能把自己阅读书籍通过不同形式传达给大家，真是一次难得的体验。

故事擂台挑战赛 (Chinese Storytelling Challenge)

我们图书馆学会每年都会有举办一些关于华文知识和阅读的小比赛。今年我们进行了故事擂台挑战赛 。大家四人为一组，只有两把椅子作为道具，我们要在短短 20 分钟内用到规定的词语和条件创作出一个小故事。然后，在大家面前表演前三分钟。这个游戏不仅有趣，还锻炼了我们的想象 力、团队合作能力、表演技巧、自信心和应变能力。

小书迷读书会讲故事 (little-avid-volunteer)

今年2月，我校图书馆学会的学生参与了国家图书馆和推广华文理事会公同举办绘本导读工作坊。在此次培训中，她们学习了一些导读绘本的技巧，为接下来的义工活动做好了准备。

她们在4月参加了小书迷和小小书迷的义工导读活动。她们在活动前认真准备，并利用周末的时间去图书馆为小孩子们讲了有趣的故事，并耐心地教他们一起做手工，受到孩子和家长们的欢迎和好评。 通过这次愉快和难得的经验，同学们提高了讲华语的自信心，也学会了如何与他人沟通相处，跨出自己的舒适区，不断挑战自我。最重要的是明白了应该回馈社会，为有需要的人伸出援助之手。

故事视频制作（Creation of Storytelling Video for NLB Chinese Storytime

我校图书馆学会每年都会参与国家图书馆的义工活动，一起为小朋友制作故事视频，并国家图书馆的官方网站“小红桥故事时间”播出。在准备过程中，我们分成不同小组，共同构思故事情节，设计角色对白，甚至动手准备道具与服装。为了让故事更生动有趣、符合儿童的理解水平，同学们一次又一次地修改剧本，反复练习台词和表演。每一次讨论和排练，都是一次宝贵的学习与成长。

尽管制作过程并不容易，但大家始终保持热情与耐心。当看到自己辛勤付出的成果化作一段段温馨的故事视频，能够带给小朋友欢乐与启发时，同学们都感到无比的满足与自豪。通过这项活动，大家不仅锻炼了合作与沟通能力，也体会到阅读与分享故事的力量，更深刻地感受到图书馆义工工作的意义。
